Target Participants
Special education teachers, teacher-aides and other professionals who work with learners with profound/multiple disabilities or who are further isolated through the presence of autism spectrum disorder.
Learning Objective
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

2) Discuss and list theories that underpin intensive interaction
3) Implement intensive interaction in their school setting
4) Evaluate the effectiveness of intensive interaction

Trainer
Ms Dariell Rice, BA (Hons) (Flinders); BSpPath (Flinders), began her career as a Speech Pathologist at St Ann’s Special School, Marion, South Australia in 2004. Since then, she has established relationships with the students, teachers, and support staff that are built on real and rich communication exchanges that respect the essence of the individual. Ms Rice has a passion for working with staff and students in an approach that is seamless, collaborative and celebrates the existing skills of all team members. She has a strong interest in Literacy for learners with special needs and the interface between music and communication. Ms Rice is working towards a doctorate which focuses on Intensive Interaction and the ways in which education staff, in their positions as expert communicators, adapt and adjust their understanding of communicative behaviours of the young people they are working with.
